2008 Jan.15 -- Added a menu bar at the bottom of the home page, giving access to all parts of the web site, along with index pages for each major content area, also containing that menu bar. This had long been planned, but it was done more quickly because of suggestions from Terry Moody and the Board. Also added emails (automatically forwarded) "publicrelations@americanrockart.org" and "youngscholars@americanrockart.org"

2007 Nov.25 -- Added email accounts for all Board members and committee chairs, of the form "president@americanrockart.org". These can all be seen on the "Contacts" page here.
They do not store email, but rather all forward it on automatically to the personal emails chosen by those individuals. This protects against spam after a term of office ends. (Bob Edberg suggestion) [later eliminated, see 4 November 2008]

2007 Nov.24 -- Added Nominations Procedures, a simple general statement. It is linked to from near the top of the "Contacts" page, as the last line of the paragraph introducing the Board members and their terms. [text from Sandy Rogers, chair of the Nominations committee] Please click here.

2007 Nov.24 -- [18 June, 2008, this item referred to early stages in designs by Chris Gralapp of graphic images for the home page of the site. Since this has now been fully implemented (in a light "sandstone" texture which leaves text easy to read), please see the home page.]

2007 Nov.24 -- Graphic alternatives (1) The typeface on the page "Art Inspired by Rock Art" has been changed to Verdana (with Arial and any Sans-Serif font as 2nd and 3rd choices on computers not having Verdana). People can judge whether they prefer this generally, or for specific pages. Requested by Marglyph. [18 June 2008, This page is now accessible only to members of the Web committee as an example of graphics. It is not part of the official ARARA web site.]

2007 Nov.23-24 -- Links from the Home page have been made more effective in several areas. Some temporary links (those which were waiting for info on the 2008 Farmington conference, and a couple of others) have been demoted to where they more properly belong . This enabled better highlighting in the top center for Conferences, Calendar, Latest Changes (which is intended as a permanent tool for members and visitors looking for new content, not mainly as now for tracking changes during development), and Volunteer ! (which now includes a link to the 2008 conference request for volunteers).

On the left side, the category "Active Management and Protection" has changed to "Management, Protection, and Conservation" and now includes as its last item, revealed by clicking on the "+" sign, "Conservation Science" (which is one specific aspect of conservation).
"Action Alerts and Success Stories" now occupies that space (formerly "Conservation Science") since those were the most substantive categories remaining on the right hand side. There is a third item under that, "Endangered Rock Art" to include information like that recently relayed by Robert Mark on the Western / Libyan Desert. This depends of course on the content material for Action Alerts, for Endangered Rock Art, and for Success Stories being developed and maintained, which is an effort now in process by others.

The "Mission Statement" adopted by the Membership of ARARA is a very efficient and short statement which can rather simply be placed on the home page, so it is now there.

2007 Nov.20 -- added officers for 2007 and 2006 to list of past officers, actually of course a history of officers, so the list is complete (info from Mavis Greer) Please click here.

2007 Nov.20 a second revision -- On the page "Evaluating this draft" added item 9. which was a list of proposed modifications which the designer of this draft (working towards a proposal to the Board) is still learning how to implement. Also a list of proposed modifications which may be alternatives rather than improvements. If the last are received in specific form, as exact text and any desired images, optionally with any needed design specifications, if they involve a reasonable amount of work to implement, they will be posted also to the web site so our members can compare alternative designs and alternative goals. (Lloyd)

2007 Nov.19 -- On the page "Art Inspired by Rock Art", where there are links to artists, included a small image to give a better flavor of the kind of art each does. Suggestion for this addition, and images used there, from Marglyph Berrier. [18 JUne, 2008 This page no longer part of the ARARA web site.]

2007 Nov.17 -- Added the 1998 opinion piece by Leigh Marymor, former chair of the Conservation Committee, on whether to make known sites which are publicly accessible, and how to manage visitation. Click here.

2007 Nov.17 -- Linked from the page for Spanish documents to the second document we have available. Click here.

2007 Nov.11 -- New version of the "Order Form" for ARARA publications. Not every ideal feature yet implemented. Click here. (Lloyd)

2007 Nov.11 -- The page "Members by State" is revised to show that although the largest absolute numbers of ARARA members are in California, which is a very populous state, the largest numbers of ARARA members per million of total state population are in New Mexico, Wyoming, Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, and (?)Utah.. (Lloyd) Click here.

2007 Nov.7-8 -- Added content to the page "Success Stories", and linked to it also from the page for Well-Managed sites and from the page "Volunteer!" (new page name suggested by Leigh Marymor), items so far by Leigh Marymor, Mark & Billo, and Solveig Turpin. Click here.

2007 Oct. 31 -- Added to the page "Recording and Image Enhancement" under the paragraph for "Photoshop" the most basic operations for adjusting contrast levels and for eliminating most of the extra color contrast which that often brings with it. Click here. (Lloyd, information from Robert Mark.)

2007 Oct. 30-31 -- Images of rock art are now being added in a sidebar to the left of many pages. If any users have screen space only 800 pixels wide, they can still see all of the text and use a vertical scroll bar. To see the rock art images they would use the horizontal scroll bar. Users with screen space at least 1024 pixels wide (almost everyone now) can see both text and images with no need for horizontal scrolling. Because of the small size of these ornamental images, single motifs and simpler panels are preferable here. With time, we can of course replace with other images. Images are selected to give an idea of "styles", or better "cultures" (recognizing connections with archaeology and ethnohistory), and to the extent possible, images may be selected to have relevance to specific pages on this site, to support unconscious learning. (Lloyd Anderson)
Here is a list:

Barrier Canyon Culture -- "Research" page here.

Bear Gulch and shield-bearers -- "Who Made It" page here, and briefer form on this "Latest Changes" page, "Spanish"

Gallisteo -- "Archaeological Societies" page here (and the same two with enhanced contrast)

Nine Mile Canyon -- "Action Alerts page" here. This page has more and some slightly larger images if you wish to test download times.

Pahranagat Culture -- "Photo Galleries" page here.

2007 Oct. 28 -- replaced AIRA vol.21 index with IRAC 1994, AIRA Volume 21 (Peggy Whitehead)

2007 Oct. 26 -- added sample of a left sidebar where images can be placed. The total width of this page is now 1024 pixels instead of 800 pixels. The 1024 consists of 780 (text content) plus 224 (images on the left) plus 20 (space for right scroll bar). No users have yet reported being restricted to small screens 800 pixels wide. But if any do have such a limitation, they can drag their pages so the right margin is at the right edge of the screen, and both the text portion and a scroll bar will then always remain visible. (Lloyd Anderson)

2007 Oct. 24 -- added this page to track Latest Changes and Additions, accessible from home page
                          (Lloyd Anderson)
