ARARA 2011 Conference
Idaho Falls, Idaho
MAY 27 – 30, 2011
The Shilo Inn Conference Center
ARARA is happy to announce that 38th annual American Rock Art Research Association Conference will convene in Idaho over Memorial Day weekend, May 27-30, 2011. The venue will be the Shilo Inn on the Snake River in Idaho Falls, Southeastern Idaho. It is conveniently adjacent to I-15, which runs North from Salt Lake City, and is the western Gateway to Jackson Hole and the Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks via State Route 26. The Shilo Inn Conference Center is located East of I-15, Exit 119, along the Scenic Snake River Parkway. The municipal airport is serviced by Delta Airlines and others, and Idaho Falls is an easy 3-hour drive from Salt Lake City.
Presentation of research papers forms the core of the meeting. Come learn the latest in rock art research, ask questions of our presenters, and share your ideas! The Conference will kick-off Friday night with a reception, “A Taste of Idaho,” at the Shilo Inn, 6–8 p.m. The lively annual ARARA silent and live auctions—donations appreciated!—will take place Saturday evening, with our entertaining awards banquet on Sunday. On Thursday, May 26, 7–9 p.m., ARARA is offering an innovative pre-conference DStretch Recording Workshop, presented by Jon Harman, author of the DStretch program. Southeastern Idaho is a focal point for a number of remarkably diverse rock art styles, and two days of field trips to these fascinating and varied sites are planned. We are excited about the spacious meeting and guest rooms, and the great room rate of $72 for 1 or 2 persons per room that includes a full hot breakfast. Room reservations may be made by phoning (208) 523-0088; be sure to ask for the ARARA rate. It is important that our members stay at our host hotel, as the cost of our Conference is based in part on our room block.
We look forward to hearing about research, seeing old friends and meeting new, visiting terrific rock art, learning new recording techniques, and getting vendor room and auction bargains, in addition to enjoying Idaho hospitality!
Remember, 2010 ARARA Members will pick up their American Indian Rock Art, Volume 37. Don't miss out. REGISTER NOW!
